about

White matter was intended to be an intimate exploration of the transient nature of life - the cycle of birth and death.

Conceived for piano and string quartet, some of the compositions expand on this with sparse electronics and expanded string arrangements. An antidote to our trouble times (it is no accident it is release on the 29th March), his new album is a modern classical collection of beautiful ambient piano and string compositions weaving a magical spell.

After his previous release, Pure Frame, where he used more abstract ambient electronics, ‘White Matter’ attempts to limit the musical means by focussing on piano and string quartet arrangements . Although there are electronics weaved into the scores, the music achieves an understated naked emotional honesty and musicality.

Giles has worked hard to create the album, recording and producing over the last 18 months in and around Glasgow. It only recently emerged as a coherent whole after months of re-collating to create something timeless, a true snap shot on Giles Lamb’s musical journey.
